🎄 Post-Christmas Breakdown

Christmas in social care is like nothing else. It is meaningful and joyful, but it can also be exhausting, emotionally heavy, and complicated, usually all in the same shift! Staff put a huge amount of themselves into getting people through that period safely and kindly.

Recognising this, I have just launched a Post-Christmas Breakdown reflection tool, designed specifically for the first staff meeting after Christmas. It is not an “inspection” and it is not a blame exercise. It assumes staff care deeply and are doing their best, even when time, systems, and staffing pressures make things harder than they should be.

The tool uses a simple LOVE framework to help teams reflect on what really happened for the people they support and for the staff supporting them. That means talking about living with meaning, being observed and respected, protecting independence, and emotional and personal safety, enabling the team to understand what went well and what should absolutely be left in 2025.

There is a free version that anyone can use to guide discussion and download meeting minutes, and there is also a Z Cares App version that allows services to save reflections year on year, plan meetings properly, and feed actions straight into their improvement plans.
